Turkey Trotters is a local Mid-South 501(c)3 organization that packages and delivers Thanksgiving meals to local families in need. The kind support of our annual golf tournament, along with food donations by many generous businesses in the Mid-South area help offset the costs of this food and allow the tradition to continue. Over the past 15 years, the efforts of our organization and the generosity of our sponsors have helped make it possible for over 1500 families to enjoy a complete dinner.
Robert A. “Punch” Pearson (1961 – 2002) founded Turkey Trotters in 1999 as a 100% volunteer driven organization, in an effort to help the greater Memphis community and allow his children and others to understand the importance of helping those less fortunate. He gathered a few friends that shared his goal, secured food donations from several local food vendors, and on Thanksgiving morning, delivered traditional food to families that would otherwise not have a Thanksgiving dinner. This was the beginning of a great Memphis tradition that continues today! Since that wonderful but humble beginning, the number of families that we deliver to has grown significantly. As a result, we can no longer depend completely on donations for food. We now purchase the food and depend on the support and contributions from the local business and golfing community to provide for the cost of the food.
